Monterey Boats’ 2007 Fort Lauderdale show produced the highest sales volume of any show in recent years for the company, it reported in a statement today.

Monterey, which introduced five new boats for the 2008 model year, debuted its newest flagship – the 415 Sport Yacht with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system – at a press conference on the show’s opening day.

“Our booth enjoyed high traffic levels of qualified buyers throughout the show,” said Monterey Co-Chairman Charles Marshall. “With all of our exciting new models on display, including the debut of our new flagship, our knowledgeable sales people were taking orders the entire show, especially multiple orders for the 415SY. We also received many orders for all of our large cruisers and sport yachts.”

Designed from the hull up to accommodate Volvo’s IPS system, Monterey’s 415 Sports Yacht is powered by Volvo’s twin diesel IPS 500 engines, which give the boat a car-like manoeuvrability and easy joystick-controlled docking ability, says Monterey.

The 415’s other features include an integrated hardtop and an oversized cockpit with its own BBQ and fridge. Down below, the saloon has a large convertible sofa and an open-plan galley with fridge and freezer.

TThe 415 Sports Yacht has two cabins and two toilets; a surround-sound system comes standard with a large flat screen TV and an air conditioner with reverse cycle heat.

There is no mistaking the bloodlines of the all-new 220 EX. It is purely Monterey, with the sharp lines and accents for which the company is known. This was no easy task, either, bringing this kind of panache to a deck boat. So much of the deck-boat appeal is inside the cockpit. How do you make the cockpit of a deck boat sexy?

Recent advances in mold technology made it possible to accentuate the boat's interior with lips and grooves that carry over from the exterior. For instance, two steps lead into the bow, where you find a wraparound toe kick and two love seats instead of the traditional lounges. The bow is wide enough to pull this off, and it plays well in a boat made for entertaining. Monterey even thought to use a three-piece windshield to fit the overall appearance.

Much of the function in the 220 comes via novel ideas. The sun pad has a pull-out extension that rests on sturdy legs over the swim platform; it makes a huge lounge area, but only when needed. The ski locker is accessed through a port hatch on the rounded transom, so nobody has to carry skis into the boat--or intrude on its panache.

An overall length measuring just over 35’ from stem to stern with a swim platform, a wide, comfortable beam of 11’3” and sleek styling make the 330SY the perfect marriage of sport and style. Optional engine choices range from twin diesel 260 hp engines to twin gas 320 hp packages.

Monterey has engineered numerous unique features into this new model. The 330SY has transverse fuel tanks on center, each 105 gallons, which allows not only for a wider mid berth that can stretch from port to starboard without the hindrance of perpendicular fuel cells, but also keeping the fuel on center allows for improved handling and performance. The cabinets down below do not span all the way to the ceiling, but instead leave a few inches of room that allows the a/c vents to be completely hidden, while the return air duct is hidden under the cushioned v-berth bolster for added quiet. A flush, balanced trim runs along the top of the cabinets to add to the sleek line of the interior. Balanced use of space on the 330SY has allowed for dedicated storage compartments for everything on board, and all of the storage compartments are completely finished on the inside. Other advances include Nidacore hull sides, and an oversized bilge area that is automated and tremendously service-friendly. A person can actually stand in the bilge area and have everything within reach.

The 330SY’s oversized cockpit area features an aft U-lounge with fiberglass bases, sun island feature and storage below; a built-in chaise lounge with a contoured backrest; and dual helm/companion seating with both flip-up thigh rises and fold-down arm rests, with storage compartment underneath. The smartly-designed layout makes for easy maneuverability yet still provides an entertainment center consisting of a wet bar, a covered sink with faucet, built-in beverage coolers and a number of cup holders.

The ergonomically-designed command center of the 330SY houses a full instrumentation of navigational aids including a digital speedometer, depth/seawater temperature gauge, compass and tachometers. All of the gauges are fog-resistant and offer low-glare night lighting while the switches are waterproof and backlit. The power-assisted tilt steering wheel is black with a silver insert, and looks sharp against the contrast of the gel coated grey dash. Two 12-volt receptacles are also available for personal electronic use. All electronic connections on the 330SY are waterproofed by Deutsch. What you won’t find in the cockpit area is a breaker panel for the battery switches. This is because Monterey has engineered remote electrical battery switches, housed in the cabin’s distribution panel for added convenience.

The 330SY incorporates a luxurious interior layout that combines comfort, convenience and class. Cherry-wood mica cabinetry coupled with trim and Kardon solid surface countertops adorn an attractive full-service galley that features a stainless steel refrigerator, dual burner electric stove, microwave, stainless steel sink and even a storable coffee maker. Passengers will enjoy the immense volume available down below due to the vast, wide open layout, complete with 6’8” of spacious headroom down below, and 6’3” of stand-up room in the head, which also houses mirrored vanity storage, a Kardon solid surface vanity top and a Vacuflush head with holding tank and dockside pumpout.

The salon/dinette features a solid wood table with dedicated storage and a roomy sofa with an easy sleeper conversion. And for overnighting, the 330SY offers additional sleeping accommodations such as the mid cabin L-shaped seating arrangement that converts to a berth, a spacious island V-berth complete with storage below. A standard 26” flat screen LCD TV, DVD player and TV/telephone inlet with an arch mounted antenna will make spending time below a necessity.

Boaties warned about changes to radio weather broadcasts.
The New South Wales marine community is being warned to take account of changes to weather forecast transmissions which came into force yesterday.

The Bureau of Meteorology says broadcasts on HF radio have been awarded to a new radio services provider and are broadcasting from the east coast transmitter located at Charleville, in southern Queensland.

The bureau's coordinator or public marine weather services, Julie Evans, says the HF weather transmissions are now sent every four hours from 1:30am AEST.

She says it is a better service, but the reception may have changed.

"The transmissions are taking place from different transmitters, but their radio equipment may need to be re-tuned even though it's essentially the same," she said.

"There are a variety of frequencies and they may find now that it's better now to listen on one of the others.

"So it may not be identical to what they've had before, so they really ought to be testing their radios now to make sure they've got it right."

Boesch to launch new model 750. This exciting project has passed the stages of the drawing board and is now well underway at Boesch's Sihlbrugg factory near Zurich, Switzerland. Power options will include twin V-6 and twin V-8 petrol engines, plus diesels on requst. Launch is scheduled for 23 November 2001 to the press, with its public debut at the Düsseldorf Boat Show.
